All the people on earth spoke the same language.
They went east and found a flat land in Shinar, and they lived there.
They talked and said, "Let us make bricks and bake them hard."
They used bricks like stones and mud like glue.
They said, "Let us build a city and a tall tower that reaches the sky, and let us make a big name for ourselves so we do not go to many places on the earth."
God came down to see the city and the tower the people built.
God said, "Look, these people are one group with one language.
Now they start to do great things, and nothing will stop them from doing what they plan."
God said, "Let us go down and give them different languages so they cannot understand each other."
God sent them away all over the earth, and they stopped building the city.
The place was called Babel because God made their language different there, and then God sent them all over the earth.
