God said to Abram, Leave your country and your family and your father's house.
Go to the land I will show you.
I will make you a big nation.
I will bless you and make your name great.
Be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you.
I will hurt those who hurt you.
All people on earth will be blessed because of you.
Abram left as God had said.
Lot went with him.
Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.
Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother's son and all their things and the people they had in Haran.
They went to Canaan.
They came into Canaan.
Abram went through the land to Shechem near the tree of Moreh.
The Canaanites were still there.
God appeared to Abram and said, I will give this land to your children.
Abram built an altar to God who came to him.
He moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel.
He put his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east.
There he built an altar to God and prayed to God's name.
Abram kept going south.
There was no food in the land.
Abram went down to Egypt to live there for a while because the land had little food.
When he was near Egypt, he told Sarai, My wife is very beautiful.
The Egyptians will see her and say she is my wife.
They may kill me and keep you alive.
Tell them, "You are my sister."
Then they will treat me well because of you.
Abram went into Egypt.
The Egyptians saw that Sarai was very beautiful.
The leaders of Pharaoh saw her and told Pharaoh.
Pharaoh took her into his house.
Pharaoh treated Abram well because of her.
He gave Abram sheep, oxen, donkeys, men, women, and camels.
God sent bad sickness to Pharaoh and his house because of Sarai.
Pharaoh called Abram.
He said, What did you do?
Why did you not tell me she is your wife?
Why did you say she is your sister so I took her as my wife?
Now take your wife and go.
Pharaoh told his men to help Abram.
They took him, his wife, and all his things on the way.
