In the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, they made war.
They fought Bera king of Sodom, Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, who is Zoar.
All these kings met in the valley of Siddim, which is the Salt Sea.
These kings served Chedorlaomer for twelve years.
In the thirteenth year they stopped obeying him.
In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came back with the kings who were with him.
He beat the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim.
He also beat the Horites in the land of Seir, up to El-paran near the desert.
They went back and came to En-mishpat, which is Kadesh, and they beat all the land of the Amalekites.
They also beat the Amorites who lived in Hazazon-tamar.
Then the kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Bela (Zoar) came out to fight.
They made their men ready for battle in the valley of Siddim.
They faced Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goiim, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings against five.
The valley of Siddim was full of sticky pits.
The kings of Sodom and Gomorrah ran away.
They fell in the pits and the rest ran to the hills.
They took all the good things of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and went away.
They took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who lived in Sodom, and his goods, and left.
A man came who had escaped, and he told Abram the Hebrew.
Now Abram lived by the oaks of Mamre, who was an Amorite, and brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner.
These men were friends with Abram.
When Abram heard that his brother was taken, he sent out his trained men who were born in his house.
There were three hundred and eighteen men.
He went after them as far as Dan.
He moved at night with his men, and he fought them and followed them to Hobah, which is on the left of Damascus.
He brought back all the goods, and he brought back his brother Lot and Lot's things, and the women, and the people.
The king of Sodom came out to meet Abram after Abram came back from the fight with Chedorlaomer and the other kings.
They met in the valley of Shaveh, which is the King's Valley.
Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine.
He was priest of God Most High.
He blessed Abram and said, "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, ruler of heaven and earth."
He also said, "Blessed be God Most High, who gave your enemies into your hand."
He gave Abram one tenth of all the things.
The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people, and you take the goods."
Abram told the king of Sodom, "I made a promise to Jehovah, God Most High, ruler of heaven and earth, that I will not take a rope, nor a shoe string, nor anything that is yours, so you will not say, ‘I made Abram rich.' "
He added, "Let the young men eat, and let Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre take their share."
