Sarai, Abram's wife, had no child.
She had a helper from Egypt named Hagar.
Sarai said to Abram, God keeps me from having babies.
Please go to my helper; maybe I can have children through her.
Abram listened to Sarai.
Sarai, Abram's wife, gave Hagar to Abram after he had lived ten years in Canaan.
Abram slept with Hagar and she became pregnant.
When Hagar saw her belly grow, she felt proud and looked down on Sarai.
Sarai said to Abram, I gave my helper to you, and now she is proud.
May God judge between us.
Abram said to Sarai, Your helper is yours and you can do what you think is good.
Sarai was hard with her and Hagar ran away.
The angel of God found Hagar near a spring in the desert on the road to Shur.
The angel asked, Hagar, Sarai's helper, where are you going?
Hagar said, I am running from the woman in charge, Sarai.
The angel said, Go back to your lady and obey her.
The angel said, I will make your children many so they cannot be counted.
The angel said, You are pregnant and will have a son.
You will name him Ishmael because God heard how sad you are.
He will be like a wild donkey among people.
He will be against every man, and every man will be against him.
He will live near all his brothers.
Hagar called God who spoke to her, "You are the God who sees me," for she said, "Have I even seen the One who sees me?"
The well was named Beer-lahai-roi because it is between Kadesh and Bered.
Hagar had a son for Abram, and Abram called the son Ishmael.
Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar had Ishmael.
