Two angels came to Sodom in the evening.
Lot sat at the city gate.
Lot saw them and went to meet them.
He bowed down with his face to the ground.
He said, My lords, please come to my house.
Stay here tonight.
Wash your feet.
Leave early tomorrow and go on your way.
They said, No, we will stay in the street.
Lot asked again and they came into his house.
He made a meal for them and baked bread without yeast.
They ate.
Before they went to sleep, the men of the city came around Lot's house.
Old and young men came from all sides.
They called to Lot, Where are the men who came to you tonight?
Bring them out to us so we may know them.
Lot went to the door and closed it behind him.
He said, My brothers, do not do this bad thing.
I have two daughters who have not been with a man.
Let me bring them out to you.
Do what you want with them.
But leave these men alone.
They have come under my roof.
They said, Go away.
They said, This man came to live here and now he thinks he is a judge.
We will do worse to you than to them.
They pushed Lot and came near to break the door.
The two men put out their hands and brought Lot into the house.
They closed the door.
They made the men at the door blind, young and old.
They were tired from looking for the door.
The men said to Lot, Do you have anyone else here?
Your sons-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and everyone in the city.
Take them out of this place.
We will destroy this place.
The people's cry is great before the Lord.
The Lord sent us to destroy it.
Lot went out and told his sons-in-law to leave the city.
The Lord will destroy the city.
They thought he was joking.
In the morning the angels told Lot, Get up quickly.
Take your wife and your two daughters.
They are here.
Do not stay in the city's sin.
Lot stayed.
The men held Lot's hand, his wife's hand, and his daughters' hands.
The Lord was kind to him.
They brought them out and set them outside the city.
They said, Run for your life.
Do not look back.
Do not stay in the plain.
Run to the mountain.
You may live.
Lot said, No, my lord.
Your servant found kindness from you.
You show love to me by saving my life.
I cannot go to the mountain.
I might die.
This city is near and it is small.
Let me go there.
Is it not small?
Then my soul will live.
The man said, I will not destroy this city.
Run there quickly.
I cannot do anything until you get there.
The city was named Zoar.
The sun was up when Lot came to Zoar.
The Lord rained fire and sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah.
He destroyed those cities, the plain, all the people, and all the plants.
Lot's wife looked back.
She became a pillar of salt.
Abraham got up early and went to the place where he stood before the Lord.
He looked at Sodom, Gomorrah, and all the land.
He saw the smoke rise like smoke from a fire.
When God destroyed the cities, He remembered Abraham.
God sent Lot out from the middle of the destruction.
Lot went up from Zoar and lived in the mountain.
His two daughters were with him.
He was afraid to live in Zoar.
He lived in a cave with his daughters.
The older daughter said to the younger, Our father is old.
There is no man in the earth to be with us.
Let us give our father wine to drink.
Then we will lie with him and keep the family seed.
They made their father drink wine that night.
The older daughter slept with him.
He did not know when she came or left.
The next day the older daughter said to the younger,
I slept with my father last night.
Let us make him drink wine again.
You go and lie with him to keep our father's seed.
They made their father drink wine again.
The younger daughter slept with him.
He did not know when she came or left.
Both daughters became pregnant by their father.
The older daughter had a son.
She named him Moab.
He is the father of the Moab people today.
The younger daughter had a son.
She named him Ben-ammi.
He is the father of the Ammon people today.
