Sarah was one hundred twenty-seven years old.
These were the years of Sarah's life.
Sarah died in Kiriath-arba, the same place as Hebron, in the land of Canaan.
Abraham came to be sad for Sarah and to cry for her.
Abraham stood up beside his wife's dead body.
He spoke to the people of Heth.
He said, "I am a stranger here with you.
Please give me a place to bury my wife.
Let me take my dead away from my eyes."
The people of Heth spoke to Abraham.
They said, "Our lord, you are a great man among us.
You can choose any grave place for your wife.
We will not keep any grave from you.
You can bury your wife."
Abraham bowed to the people of the land.
He talked with them more.
He said, "If you think I can bury my wife, please listen.
Ask Ephron son of Zohar for the cave of Machpelah.
It is at the end of his field.
Tell him to sell the cave to me.
Let him give it to me in front of you as a grave place."
Ephron sat with the people of Heth.
He spoke to Abraham in front of all who came to the city gate.
He said, "No, my lord.
Listen to me.
I give you the field and the cave in it.
I give it to you in front of my people.
You can bury your wife."
Abraham bowed down before the people of the land again.
He spoke to Ephron in front of them.
He said, "If you want, please listen.
I will pay for the field.
Take the money from me.
I will bury my wife there."
Ephron answered Abraham.
He said, "My lord, hear me.
The land is worth four hundred silver shekels.
What is that between us?
Please bury your wife."
Abraham listened to Ephron.
He weighed the money for Ephron in front of the people of Heth.
He gave four hundred silver shekels.
The money was the same as the price in the market.
So the field of Ephron in Machpelah, near Mamre, was sure for Abraham.
The field, the cave inside, and all the trees around the field were made sure for Abraham in front of the people of Heth.
All who went to the city gate saw it.
After that, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah near Mamre, the same as Hebron, in the land of Canaan.
The field and the cave in it were made sure to Abraham as a place to bury his dead by the people of Heth.
