When Isaac was old and his eyes were weak and he could not see, he called Esau, his older son, and said to him, "My son."
Esau said, "Here I am."
Isaac said, "I am old and I do not know the day I will die."
Now please take your weapons, your arrow bag, and your bow, and go to the field, and bring me some deer meat.
Make me the tasty food I like and bring it to me so I can eat it and bless you before I die.
Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son.
Esau went to the field to hunt for deer meat and to bring it.
Rebekah said to Jacob her son, "I heard your father tell Esau your brother, 'Bring me deer meat, and make the tasty food that I like, so I can eat and bless you before God and before I die.' "
Now, my son, do what I say.
Go now to the herd and get me two good young goats, and I will make the tasty food for your father that he likes.
You will bring it to your father so he can eat and bless you before he dies.
Jacob said to his mother, "Look, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.
My father may feel me and think I am a liar, and I will bring a curse and not a blessing."
His mother said, "Let my curse be on me, my son. Only do what I say and bring me the goats."
He went and got them and brought them to his mother.
His mother made the tasty food that his father liked.
Rebekah took Esau's good clothes that were in the house and put them on Jacob her younger son.
She put the skins of the young goats on his hands and the smooth part of his neck.
She gave the tasty food and the bread she had made to her son Jacob.
He came to his father and said, "My father."
Isaac said, "Here I am. Who are you, my son?"
Jacob said, "I am Esau, your first son. I did what you told me. Please stand up and eat my deer meat so that you can bless me."
Isaac said, "How did you find it so fast, my son?"
Jacob said, "Because God sent me good luck."
Isaac said to Jacob, "Come close so I can touch you, my son, to see if you are really Esau."
Jacob went close to Isaac his father, and Isaac touched him and said, "The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are Esau's hands."
Isaac could not know him because his hands were hairy like Esau's, so he blessed him.
Isaac said, "Are you really my son Esau?"
Jacob said, "I am."
Isaac said, "Bring the food near me so I can eat it as my son's meat and bless you."
Jacob brought it near and Isaac ate it, and he gave him wine, and he drank.
Isaac said, "Come close now and kiss me, my son."
Jacob came close and kissed him.
Isaac smelled the smell of his clothes and blessed him and said, "May God give you good things."
When Isaac finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had barely gone out from his father's side, Esau his brother came in from hunting.
He also made tasty food and brought it to his father.
He said, "My father, please stand up and eat your son's deer meat so that you can bless me."
Isaac said, "Who are you?"
Esau said, "I am your son, your first born, Esau."
Isaac shook very much and said, "Then who got the deer meat and brought it to me, and I ate it before you came, and I blessed him? He will be blessed."
When Esau heard his father's words, he cried with a loud and bitter cry and said, "Bless me too, my father."
Isaac said, "Your brother came with a trick and took your blessing."
Esau said, "Is not his name Jacob because he has taken my place twice? He took my birth gift; now he took my blessing. Have you no blessing for me?"
Isaac said, "Look, I made him your master, and I gave all his brothers to him for servants, and I gave him grain and new wine to keep him. What can I do for you, my son?"
Esau said, "Is there only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father."
Esau raised his voice and cried.
Isaac answered, "I gave the good blessing to Jacob."
Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing; he thought, "When my father dies I will kill Jacob."
Rebekah heard what Esau said.
She told Jacob, "Your brother Esau is comforting himself and plans to kill you."
Now, my son, obey me and go to my brother Laban in Haran.
Stay with him a few days until your brother is not angry and he forgets what you did.
Then I will send and bring you back.
Why should I lose you both in one day?
Rebekah said to Isaac, "I am tired of my life because of the daughters of Heth.
If Jacob takes a wife from them, what good will my life do me?"
