Listening A1: Genesis Chapter 1 - Genesis 4

The man knew his wife Eve.

She had a baby boy named Cain.

She said, "God helped me get a son."

Then she had another son.

He was Abel.

Abel took care of sheep.

Cain worked the soil.

Later Cain brought food from the ground to give to God.

Abel also brought the first sheep and the good fat to God.

God liked Abel and his gift, but he did not like Cain and his gift.

Cain was very angry and sad.

God said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why do you look sad?"

If you do good, you will be happy.

If you do not do good, sin is ready near you.

You must keep it down.

Cain talked with his brother Abel.

When they were in the field, Cain stood over Abel and killed him.

God said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?"

Cain said, "I do not know. Am I to watch my brother?"

God said, "What have you done? The ground tells me Abel's blood is crying."

Now the ground is against you because it took your brother's blood.

When you work the ground, it will not give you much.

You will run away and move from place to place.

Cain said to God, "This hard thing is too much for me."

"You have sent me away from the ground.

I will hide from you.

I will run and move on the earth.

If anyone finds me, he will kill me."

God said, "If anyone kills Cain, I will punish that one seven times."

God gave Cain a mark so no one would hit him.

Cain left God's place and lived in Nod, east of Eden.

Cain knew his wife.

She had a son named Enoch.

Cain built a city and named it Enoch.

Enoch had a son named Irad.

Irad had a son named Mehujael.

Mehujael had a son named Methushael.

Methushael had a son named Lamech.

Lamech had two wives named Adah and Zillah.

Adah had a son named Jabal.

He was the father of those who live in tents and keep animals.

His brother was Jubal.

He was the father of people who play harp and pipe.

Zillah had a son named Tubal-cain.

He made every sharp tool of brass and iron.

Tubal-cain had a sister named Naamah.

Lamech said to his wives.

Adam knew his wife again.

She had a son and named him Seth.

She said, "God gave me another son instead of Abel, because Cain killed him."

Seth had a son and named him Enosh.

Then people began to pray to God.
